Shelter – a space for collective protection.
Protected spaces (*slėptuvės*) – structures or specially equipped premises designed to protect civil servants and employees from threats to life or health. This applies to those carrying out tasks and functions assigned to state and municipal institutions and agencies, or ensuring the continued operation of these institutions and agencies during emergencies or wartime. The Government of the Republic of Lithuania determines the national requirement for such protected spaces.
Key recommendations for the public:
If the "Air Raid" civil protection signal catches you while you are on the street or elsewhere, immediately seek the nearest shelter marked with the designated sign.
If there is no shelter marked with the designated sign nearby, find a temporary place of cover as quickly as possible by utilizing suitable local structures, objects, terrain features, or infrastructure. As a last resort, you may seek cover in a depression, ditch, behind a concrete barrier, on the ground floor of a building, among ruins, in utility access shafts, at a construction site, or in similar locations.
If you have a basement, prepare it in advance as a wartime shelter; basements with concrete ceilings and sturdy walls are the most suitable.
